Victory and podium placement – Callaway Competition leads the ADAC GT Masters rankings after a successful racing weekend
Leingarten, July 13th, 2017
Callaway Competition is heading into the fourth ADAC GT Masters weekend with Jules Gounon and Renger van der Zande. The Netherlands native is temporarily filling in for Daniel Keilwitz. Injuries sustained by the Callaway driver during a test day are forcing the leader in the rankings to be a spectator. Callaway Competition intends to continue defending its leading position in the rankings of the ADAC GT Masters with replacement driver van der Zande and Gounon.
The Swabian racing team Callaway Competition from Leingarten is heading for the racetrack, which lies directly behind the dunes on the North Sea coast, with a lead of 19 points. Daniel Keilwitz will not be sitting behind the wheel of the Corvette C7 GT3-R as the copilot of Jules Gounon for the first time. The Callaway driver fractured his lower led during test drives, forcing him to be a spectator. “My leg operation went well and I am doing better every day,” says Daniel Keilwitz.
Renger van der Zande good replacement driver
A capable replacement driver was taken on board with Renger van der Zande. The former DTM driver knows the Netherlands racecourse like the back of his hand. He is familiar with the ADAC GT Masters as well, with previous guest starts in 2014 and 2015. “The team has found a very good replacement driver in Renger van der Zande.
He has a lot of experience with the various race cars, which should enable him to get used to the Corvette quickly. And as a local hero, he knows Zandvoort really well,” says Daniel Keilwitz about his replacement. “I wish Daniel a speedy recovery. Of course I would like to be returning to the ADAC GT Masters under different circumstances. Starting right outside your own front door as a Netherlands native is great,” says van der Zande, pleased about his guest start. “I will be driving the Corvette for the first time in Zandvoort. This is something I am really looking forward to. I just want to do a good job and help Jules Gounon defend the leadership position in the rankings.”
Daniel Keilwitz is also in Zandvoort
The team is highly motivated and approaching the racing weekend with focus. Daniel Keilwitz will be attending in the capacity of an advisory team member. “Daniel is going to be there. He knows our Corvette the best. Surely he will be able to provide some tips,” says team leader Giovanni Ciccone. “We are convinced that Renger is a worthy replacement. Rather than complaining, we are going to give our best to maintain our leading position in the rankings.” Callaway Competition intends to get the most out of the next weekend (July 21-23). Defending its leadership in the rankings is the clear objective. With Daniel Keilwitz as coach and adviser by their side, Renger van der Zande and Jules Gounon become a well prepared trio heading for the starting line with motivation and focus.
