ADAC GT Masters - Autodrom Most, Czech Republic
The second race weekend of the ADAC GT Masters 2018 season was held at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic and Callaway Competition was impressive, showing it is back in the battle for the Series title defense. Callaway Drivers, Daniel Keilwitz and Marvin Kirchhöfer, reached the podium in both races, finishing P2 twice.
Last weekend, the "League of Super Sports Cars" celebrated its first "away-game" of the season in the Czech Republic and Callaway Competition put its unfortunate start to the season into perspective with a strong performance at Most. No other team collected more championship points last weekend.
From the beginning of the weekend, the two Callaway pilots, Daniel Keilwitz (28/Villingen) and Marvin Kirchhöfer (24/Markkleeberg), demonstrated the power of the Corvette C7 GT3-R. Even during the abbreviated free practice sessions, it was obvious that the VALVOLINE/ROLLER-Corvette could be counted on.
Despite the high temperatures on Saturday and Sunday, which was a real challenge for all participants, Marvin Kirchhöfer and Daniel Keilwitz maintained their cool. In exciting, shortened qualifying sessions on Saturday and Sunday, the two drivers of the "Made in Leingarten" entry secured a position in the front row for both races. In fact, on Saturday, Marvin Kirchhöfer missed qualifying on the Pole by only 0.009 seconds!
The challenging, 21-turn, 4.212 kilometer course proved to offer few opportunities for passing. However, both on Saturday and on Sunday, Kirchhöfer and Keilwitz took advantage of their second place starts and defended the position in the two 60-minute races with well-deserved, second-place podium finishes.
"I am very pleased with the weekend. We had hoped that we could ride at the front. That we were able to get to the podium twice in two races is also, naturally, a super success. My thanks to the whole Team. They were on the gas and pushing the whole weekend." - Marvin Kirchhofer
"It was a super weekend. Naturally, we had to win, but we were able to get a lot of points and, through both successes, we're re-connected to the forefront of the series. That was important." - Daniel Keilwitz
"After the disappointing outcome of the Oschersleben Weekend, we had to have a solid points yield at Most, otherwise we would find ourselves in a very unfavorable position. With the two Top Results, we more than achieved our goal. I'd like to express my thanks to the entire Team and the drivers for the great performance. To qualify two times in the first row, in a field in which P1 to P15 was decided by 0.5 seconds, certainly requires some luck but, first and foremost, requires error-free performance. The competition this weekend was unbelievable. That may have been a result of specific actions of the BOP (Balance of Performance) officials, who have done a great job here. My congratulations also go to RWT, for a great 8th place in the first race." - Callaway Team Manager, Mike Gramke.
Now it's time for a break of six weeks for Callaway Competition. Then they will charge back to the Red Bull Ring in the Austrian province of Styria (June 8-10) for the third battle of the ADAC GT Masters Championship.
